Ganja Granny sez An emergency press conference was called by Marijuana Policy Project in Albany, New York at the Capital building. I traveled the 2 &1/2 hr train ride & really glad I did so. Catching the 8 AM train from Penn station was not as difficult as trying to get to the station from the Upper East Side at 7AM when everyone is trying to get to work. Subways are jammed as well as busses. You can almost forget about getting a taxi. I was blessed… hopped in a cab & realized by the next day… what I went through was nothing… compared to what I felt the following day when I read a distorted account of what I supposedly said… written by a journalist, who I am sure must be on some kind of “tainted wacky tobacky”. I am honored to have the opportunity to take part &to speak along with other patients, who also went out of their way to be there. It was worth all the aggravation… just to meet them & hear their stories. WE all hoped sincerely that we would make a difference &Medical Marijuana would become law in the state of New York. My family & friends as well as the patients who attended were appalled by the audacity of one of the reporters who blatantly took the liberty to write what he wanted & not what was actually said, zeroing in on me. Thank God it was all recorded.Coming from a man who was obviously obese with equally obvious infirmities, walking with a cane, you would expect him to be professional, writing the truth whether he agreed with our appeal or not…. Anyway, he said I routinely break the law to get relief from my breast cancer & spinal cancer. I never said anything like that. I had third stage Breast cancer which spread from the primary tumor into the spinal area. He tried to make a criminal out of me & a liar since I never said I ALSO had Spinal cancer. So much for distorted journalism from a guy who personally recited to me a litany of serious drugs he is on. I asked him why he did not take a hot shower & indulge in some cannabis . He said he always takes hot showers but would never try marijuana. I am certain whatever he is on has affected his hearing & definitely the part of the brain that helps process what we hear. I do not claim that marijuana is a cure all. It may not work…. as well as any currently prescribed RX may not work. It worked for me & it worked for the patients who came to Albany. It works for countless of others who have told me their stories. We are asking for marijuana as an alternative choice. …A few days later I found myself again in Albany at a rally for Joe Barton who is facing 10 yrs for giving marijuana to a cancer patient. Mr. Barton was arrested along with his son in a raid on his home. The patient later wrote in a notarized letter, stating how Mr. Barton helped him free of charge. Anyway the patient died. Perhaps it was his time…certainly, being deprived of the hemp oil did not help him to exit this world smoothly. Again, I met great people, hanging out the entire afternoon in the park… directly in front of the Capital building. …The highlight for me was the Dharma Bums which I intend to write more about very soon…about the leader, Phil Void & his music. I love his classic,”Sacred Herb”! We got some really nice footage that day for Ganja Granny’s Quest for a Legal Hit………Returning to NYC we had to pull over so I could do a call in RADIO BLOG show hosted by Pamela DeLeon-Lewis. Doug Green, a well spoken young man from Long Island, N.Y and affiliated w/ NORML & I were the guests for the hour show. It was the most relaxing thing I had done since Marijuana was discovered. Well, not exactly but close.. Ms DeLeon-Lewis is a wonderful host. More power to her!. I was wiped out that night knowing I still had 2 more events on Sat. & Sun….Saturdays Full moon changed Sat. plans. We did not attend the first ever Harlem Gay Parade. Hopefully we will do so next yr……Sunday was the big GAY PARADE in Manhattan also Commemorating the Stonewall Uprising 41 yrs ago. I had hoped to march with Housing Works whose thrift shops help people with Aids. They are the best in what they do.At the last minute they decided they did not want to send a mixed message. Couldn’t argue..Its their parade! We were not many but we marched w/ a 24 ft plus long WHITE banner EMBLAZONED w/ RED letters… MEDICAL MARIJUANA NOW!… There were gay groups in front & back. It took me awhile to realize the crowd was roaring wildly not for those in front or in back of us( ironically, we marched in front of Housing Works) THEY WERE CHEERING WILDLY FOR US….Each time we came into the crowds view they went crazy. I was thrilled with the orgasmic response we were getting. It made it all worth it, solidifying my participation next year. It was the best… because ALL people from All walks of life straight & gay alike were out there giving their support. The camera man showed as it ended… so we did not get much footage but it was okay. Except for a few STUPID RUDE kids it was a perfect day. We were in the center of a very large tight group of people . I was trying to interview someone when out of nowhere these kids came screaming into my face, the camera & the mike which they tried to snatched out of my hands. It took everything.. for me not to cause a riot. I will not go out again unless I have body guards…You don’t have to tell Ganja Granny twice. Ganja Granny wants to say thanks to all who participated, especially that loving friendly, if not gay at least very very happy crowd…Ganja Granny sez Stay Blazed. P.S. GANJA GRANNY SENDS SPECIAL LOVE TO DOUG, LETICIA,MICK & those 6 Beautiful AfroAmerican girls from Brooklyn who so generously helped us out.
