GANJA GRANNY sez WE WILL WIN!
Ganja Granny sez This past week was SMOKING… Bar BQ included. Most Americans took a break, inviting family and friend to cookouts, gatherings in their homes or took advantage of incredible weather and great shopping bargains. This happened for a few of us… the rest of us, went on with our daily struggles with the cost of living rising by the minute, unemployment and severe weather conditions that have destroyed entire communities. At the same time we continue to deal with our movement to LEGALIZE MARIJUANA for everyone and especially for patients everywhere. In NYC, more than anywhere else in the country we are dealing with the zealousness of our men in blue who are ordered to frisk and stop and don’t forget…. BUST anyone, mostly people of color for minor marijuana possession. We have become the Marijuana arrest capital of the world. They are also issuing tickets in NYC, starting at 50 bucks, to people who smoke in public parks. 250 dollars, if you refuse to put it out.. Maybe we will find new allies in this group of targeted people. Drug Policy Alliance and a few others organized an excellent press conference/protest on may 25th in front of Mayor Bloomberg’s Mansion. It was scheduled to begin at 9:30 Am…Ganja Granny arrived at 9:15 and was greeted, by what seemed like 10,000 cops. I was sure the president and the pope were visiting our illustrious mayor….. or perhaps, The Messiah finally arrived. After all,He did not come to the end of the world which did not occur as previously predicted on the 21st This was not the case at all.. They were there FOR US! the mayor said we could not protest in front of his home and directed the police and security to order us to the S.W.corner of Fifth ave.. The mayor lives on the N.E. side of 5th ave… a few doors down towards Madison Ave. We were told not to block the sidewalk. How could we???The police managed to that quite well..along with all the press, cameras and reporters jotting down anything and everything..Everyone that came were extremely professional in dress and in behavior. A few council members also spoke and everyone seem to say what they had to say demanding the mayor to put a stop to all the unnecessary arrests regarding marijuana, particularly people of color. Please, read a detailed story posted here in SMOKE SIGNALS. Did the Mayor hear us? Did the Mayor pay attention? Will our protests be enough or do we step up the action until we get desired results????? In the meantime, Ganja Granny continues to look for supporters willing to march in the GAY PRIDE PARADE under the banner LEGALIZE MEDICAL MARIJUANA NOW!…..We will assemble at 11 Am on Sunday, June 26th.. Please let Ganja Granny know if you are willing and able. You don’t have to be gay to march or be a supporter..It is required however, that you are VERY,VERY HAPPY! I wish everyone a Happy Memorial day. Ganja Granny sez wear your GREEN RIBBON PROUDLY, Stay Blazed, Keep it Lit and Pass it Around! Better days are coming….WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
