GANJA GRANNY SEZ WEED HEAVEN OR LGBT HEAVEN 2011
Ganja Granny sez,.Weed Heaven or LGBT Heaven, in either case… we experienced a little bit of both this past week!. Congratulations are definitely in order. The victory, that the LGBT community finally tasted in NY on Friday night was hard won. It did not come over night and not without blood, sweat and tears. There is still a lot to do and I am confident they will reach all their goals in the very near future. The movement to Legalize Marijuana can definitely learn from the unique, unwavering solidarity of LGBT Community. That night in the Stonewall Tavern 42 years ago, forced everyone to say “I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!”! Within hours, they began to organize as never before.Within hours, they began to develop new strategies, vowing commitment, dedication, perseverance, sacrifice and a “TAKE NO PRISONERS ATTITUDE”. Regardless of their diversity, they came together to arrive at this point in time ready for battle. They certainly deserve their SWEET VICTORY. We will continue to support them…. until that day, when they will not be thought of or referred to as… the LGBT COMMUNITY… but as OUR COMMUNITY of brothers and sisters. JUST ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY! I salute their victory, pledging my continuing support…..confident, they will support us in our fight for LEGALIZATION. I would like to forge an alliance that will be as unbeatable and unstoppable! The LGBT COMMUNITY IS OUT OF THE CLOSET and I am certain can and will help us… come out of ours. I am confident we will stand together and stand up for what we believe in. It was only natural… that this long awaited blessing would pump up the excitement of the GAY PRIDE PARADE held yesterday the 26th of June in NYC. It is my most favorite parade of all parades because it is filled with genuine love. The costumes are always over the top and absolutely ingenious. The talent, time, creativity & passionate care that goes into the costumes and floats are always a surprising delight to behold….I have to admit, it can also be shocking to anyone who has no clue, as to what to expect! The organization of the most minute detail is evident to all who attend. Sure! Nothing is ever perfect… but in the end its never ever been a disappointment to anyone that I am aware of. Ganja Granny marched w/ some of the GREATEST TROUPERS anywhere. There were 11 sections. We were the 21st group in section 9. It was awhile getting started but when we did… it was worth the wait. I have to thank everyone, especially my dear friend Bruce Dunn from upstate N Y who traveled seven hrs by car, train & subway to help us out. He is a former Viet Nam vet & a prime candidate for medical marijuana. I cannot forget Cindy, who traveled from Connecticut. She is full of energy and having her in your corner is like having an attack dog with a perpectual smiling face. She helped to keep us all from misbehaving. Mariele & Josh came from Bergen County in New Jersey. I absolutely love them and thank them for being there with us. We were all blessed with their sincere spirit of friendship and love. We were several hours late getting started, but they or no one else voiced any complaints. Also Joel, the guy who puts the PHIZZ in Physicist! I can’t thank him enough for his generous helping hand and hope he will continue to support us in the future…. even after…. he one day, wins a Nobel Prize. Thanks… to my NYC girl friend, transplanted from Ohio…Ms Deanna Choice who always has a smile on her face for everyone… My dear friends, Paul DeRienzo and the Lovely Ms. Joan-Marie MOOSSY (both co -hosts from cables”LET THEM TALK”! )They danced the entire route of the Parade with Alice Torbush( who so graciously registered our group) and Jude who is and has been a long time supporter for Legalization of Medical Marijuana. I thank my girl friend and Michigan homey, Karen Nelson, a photographer/ actress who was not feeling well but came anyway to show support for everyone involved in this great day! Of course “THE PIE MAN” was there! You have to give him credit for trying and try he did. Although he has been seriously ill and in rehab.. he gave new meaning to the word DETERMINATION. Thank you to our friend Juan Valezuela who came with his sweetheart daughter, Cornelia who is an absolute delight! Cannot give enough thanks to Doug Green from NY STATE NORML, who was a stabilizing influence, since he had led the group in in 2010 and 2009. I must also say, I was deeply touched by the presence of the late Barbara Jackson’s daughters, Debra Bailey and Doris Greene along with Doris’s young grand daughter. Barbara, I know would have been sooooo proud of them and us. She would have been happy, marching right up front with us.. I truly believe she was with us in spirit! I know I am missing many people, whom I thank wholeheartedly for being there including the ones who were lost or could not get through the barricades to where we were waiting on E 38th and Madison. Last… but not least, is the all important MEDICAL MARIJUANA NOW! banner that was so prominently displayed, leading our group all the way to the end. It was Letitia, Tre, and a few others, who so proudly carried the banner throughout the parade until the finish line…I thank everyone and vow to be in this parade next year with a greater army of supporters of the Gay Pride Parade and the eventual LEGALIZATION of MARIJUANA. God love us all! We did the best we could and we had a fantastic time doing it! Oh YEAH! That lovely couple who marched with their dog??? I apologize to you because I can’t remember your names. I am soooo sorry because you were almost the first to arrive. Thank you and know I will know your names the next time we meet! It ended with the roar of the crowd still in my head and still there… as I compose this blog! I can’t forget all the wonderful people who cheered us on and showed us love and their support for LEGALIZATION! THANK YOU!
