“What’s Goin’ On?” My first blog.
Hi there everyone. THIS IS MY FIRST BLOG!! I have learned a great deal in the past few months about what we loosely term “Marijuana Activism.” I would like to make some observations so please do not see it as judgment. There is much good that can come from medical research about cannabis. It seems to me that a good thing to work toward is getting the Federal Government and/or other authorities involved in this medical research. I’ve met a number of people that have verified the validity of the healing properties of Cannabis. It is widely known and accepted that it is at the very least a painkiller, anti-inflammatory. In my lifetime I have heard many rumors that were more true than not about President Kennedy mitigating his back pain due to an injury he suffered while in the Navy with marijuana. I have spoken to more than one person who has told me that through the use of marijuana they have shrunk tumors and/or have gone into complete remission. Although some may say that anecdotal information is not enough to validate medical marijuana it must also be said that in many ways it is essential to initiating and informing the clinical research in the first place! To discount an individual’s personal experience simply because the lack of clinical research, I think ,is narrow-minded. As I said before, GET THE GOVERNMENT INVOLVED! Why? Well, politicians [that we have elected to represent us] are more likely to pay attention to and have there opinions swayed by government-backed research. It seems to be the best way to get our marijuana laws changed for those of us who can benefit from it’s medicinal properties.
Another issue that seems to exist in this community of activism is ego, arguments about who has done more for the movement,etc…..whatever? This movement should be more coordinated to achieve the common goal of normalization of the law. If it were possible, having a “national coordinator” [or at least state by state coordinators] for all the different organizations would go a long way towards keeping our “eyes on the prize” so to speak. It saddens me to see the infighting ,back-stabbing and finger- pointing that seems to go on. If all this sound political? ….well, it is when you’re talking about changing the law of the land. SO BE IT! It is so counterproductive and it seems obvious to me that when there is so much to be gained;there is an equal amount that is lost when we fail to reach the goals set many years ago. I firmly believe that the number of people that could be help in this great nation of ours with medical marijuana is in the multi-millions.
I would like to borrow a quote from someone I would admire greatly, Peter McWilliams: “Why must I always fall for chicken shits on ego trips?”
