Washington, DC: Seventy-four percent of Americans believe that the federal government should cease interfering in states that have legalized the limited use of marijuana as a medicine, according to a nationwide Mason-Dixon poll of 1,000 likely voters.
According to the poll, 74 percent of respondents – including 67 percent of self-identified Republicans – believe that the Obama administration should “respect the medical marijuana laws” in those states that have legalized its use, cultivation, and distribution. Only 15 percent of those polled said they supported the federal government’s ongoing use of “federal resources to arrest and prosecute individuals who are acting in compliance” with the medicinal cannabis laws of their state.
In recent months, the Obama administration has taken various actions to interfere in the enactment of statewide medical marijuana laws. These efforts have included threatening state employees with federal prosecution and targeting the landlords of state-licensed cannabis dispensaries. The actions contradict a pledge Obama made in March 2008, as a Presidential candidate, when he promised to cease utilizing “Justice Department resources to try and circumvent state laws” regarding medical cannabis.
The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted between May 10 and May 14 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research. The margin for error is ±3 percent.
Last week, members of the United States House of Representatives voted 262 to 163 to defeat a federal budget amendment that sought to prevent the federal government from spending taxpayers’ dollars to target medical marijuana-related activities that are compliant with state law. One hundred and thirty-five Democrats and 28 Republicans voted in support of the amendment.

We are hopeful as we have always been. We are completely surrounded by states that have Medical Marijuana. Its hard to believe that NYS will continue to ignore the the many pleas for compassion by patients and their supporters.. It would be an alternative in the arsenal of weapons that we already prescribe to. If a patient does not respond to conventional legal medication, I see no problem in trying something that may help..It is important that New Yorkers call their Senators… The ball is obviously in their court and in ours, to do what we have to do… The governor has yet to say yes… but he has not said no…Keep plugging away at those calls, emails or however you intend to get the word out there, particularly to your senator…Concerning the Stop N’ Frisk arrests in NYC.. Obviously we have been heard in our protests. Judge Shira A. Schiendlin said in a 57 page decision there was OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE that the stop and frisk policy is being directed from the highest levels of the police department and has been responsible for THOUSANDS OF UNLAWFUL STOPS.Judge Schiendlin granted class action status to a lawsuit alleging that the NYPD subjects millions of people living in the city to racially biased illegal searches.Judge Shiendlin wrote the police department “displays a deeply troubling apathy towards New Yorkers most fundamental constitutional rights.” This ruling is a serious blow to Mayor Bloombergs administration which has strongly backed Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and his dealing with this policy. Hopefully this ruling and class action status will make a significant difference in this matter. I can see where this policy could be of help as deterrent to crime in the city but that is not the case at all.. particularly since our jails and prisons are being privatized. A private or for profit prison, jail or detention center is a place in which individuals are physically confined or interned by a third party that is contracted by a government agency. Private prison companies typically enter into contractual agreements with governments that commit prisoners and then PAY PER DIEM or MONTHLY RATE FOR EACH PRISONER CONFINED IN THE FACILITY. Today, the privatization of prisons refers both to the takeover of existing public facilities by private operators and to the BUILDING and OPERATION of NEW AND ADDITIONAL prisons by FOR PROFIT companies. I find this to be frightening in every sense of the word.. These companies are on the NY STOCK EXCHANGE. With the growing number of incarcerated individuals each year, investing in prison stocks has become a lucrative move As the prison population continues to rise, private corrections corporations build more facilities and continue to grow…. This is a wake up call for all of us, not just someone of color or someone indulging in cannabis… At some point, we are all vulnerable. It can happen to anyone.. Ganja Granny sez we must be vigilant and we must educate ourselves before all our rights are taken from us….On another toke, I did speak with Ken Unger our Disabled Vet in Missouri. His trial date is Novenber 13th.. However a motion will be made in early June to squash the testimony of the arresting officer. As a result, we are on hold for now but like always Granny will keep you posted…. Also, we are a month away from the most fun filled, love filled parade in NYC.. The GAY PRIDE PARADE.. Remember you do not have to be gay to march or be a supporter.. JUST VERY VERY HAPPY! In the meantime, dowatchagottado..and by all means wear your Green Ribbon and STAY BLAZED!…..
